Habacoa: The Future of Superyacht Marinas is Coming Soon to North America
Ra'anan Ben-Zur, the founder and developer of Habacoa, sat down with us at Superyachts.com to discuss his visionary luxury resort community in the Bahamas. Located at the southern tip of South Abaco, Habacoa is set to redefine luxury living and yachting in the Caribbean. The development will feature the largest superyacht marina in North America, with 150 berths, ranging from 18 metres to over 200 metres, with plans to open in 2027. The resort is positioned to be a world-class destination for owners, guests and crew.
Its prime location on the main nautical route from the U.S. to the Bahamas and Caribbean makes Habacoa an ideal stop for yachts cruising through the region. With a 30-minute flight from Miami and two hours from New York, the resort is a convenient gateway to the Caribbean. For yacht owners, it’s more than just a docking spot; it's an immersive destination.
Ra'anan Ben-Zur calls Habacoa ‘the marina of the future,’ and for good reason. The marina will integrate cutting-edge technology and sustainability, with eco-friendly initiatives like solar power and water conservation. It has already earned the 2022 International Smart & Sustainable Marina Coup de Coeur award. Ben-Zur also emphasised the focus on the yacht crews, stating, ‘We are taking very good care of the captain and the crew,’ offering exclusive club facilities and services that go beyond what’s typically available at most marinas.
Habacoa will be much more than a marina, with luxury shopping, dining, and wellness services that cater to every need. Whether guests are seeking casual meals or gourmet cuisine, the resort promises to deliver world-class options. The development includes a yacht club designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. Ben-Zur noted that unlike most marinas in the region, which are ‘glorified parking lots,’ Habacoa offers ‘so many things to do, you have more reasons to stay than to leave.’
Sustainability is at the core of the development. With low-density design and the use of renewable energy sources, Habacoa aims to minimise its environmental impact. Its location, with cliffs up to 100 feet high, ensures protection from rising sea levels for at least the next century. The resort is also committed to preserving the island's ecosystem and meeting global environmental standards.
With its innovative approach to yachting, sustainability, and luxurious service, Habacoa is set to become a game-changer in the industry. As Ben-Zur puts it, the resort is about creating a lasting, sustainable impact for the yachting world, promising an unforgettable experience for both yachtgoers and their crews.
